Starting a blog or a Squidoo lens

So, you want to start a blog or a few Squidoo lens’ and are wondering the best way to go about it. The fact of the matter is, that there is no best way for everybody, only the best way for you. Below you will find a little useful information that could just possibly push you in the right direction when you finally decide it is a good time to start.

The first thing that you need to decide on is, will these be strictly money making ventures, or will they be something you have a passion about? Maybe you love sports, music, or food, and just want to go about letting the world know what you think on these subjects with no intention of every making money off of your blog or Squidoo lens.

If that is the case, then little do you realize this now, but some of the most successful and lucrative websites on the internet were started exactly the same way. These websites were began by people that had a favorite sports team, a music artist they loved, or a plan to let the world know how great their grandmothers food and recipes were.

These people never had any intention of making money off of them, but as the time past, and their traffic began to gradually increase, there financial potential became evident, and there owners were able to turn their passions into full time careers. The problem with this approach if you only want to make money off of your blogs or Squidoo pages, is that it does not happen overnight, and it will take a considerable amount of effort on your behalf.

The other main reason people start these types of websites, is of course to make money online with them. If you are a new comer to the world of internet marketing, then you need to be fully aware of the fact, that it is not easy. You will need to spend a considerable amount of time, effort, and investment in order to accomplish your goal. However, it can be done, if you are willing to put in the work required to get your sites to where they need to be.

Without question, the number one mistake most novices make when it comes to starting either blogs or Squidoo pages is not researching every facet of the market before they start. After you begin, you are usually committed to following through for at least a certain period of time until you can determine the results you will have.

Unfortunately, in all too many cases, this ends up being wasted time, and wasted effort because not enough thought went into it before you began. Some of the things you will need to take into consideration before you start are the following, how large is the market for the product or service you will be promoting, how stiff is the competition, how much time can you devote to the project, and how much capital can you afford to lose on it if it does not turn out the way you wished it had?

Starting a blog or Squidoo pages can be a great deal of fun, and actually make you some nice money. But beware, there are some pitfalls, and most of them will fail without a great deal of time and effort put into them by you.

Become an expert in your niche

When readers visit your blog you want them to return. While there are a number of ways to coach repeat visitors, none of them will work effectively if you aren’t recognized as an expert on your blog’s subject. Below are a few ways to mold yourself, your image, and your blog into an authority of your niche.

  • Read,Study,Learn

You probably already have a decent knowledge of your blog’s subject or you wouldn’t have started the blog in the first place, but no one can possibly know everything. Every industry changes, new technology comes about and new products are constantly released to the market. Read your competition’s blog, subscribe to magazines related to your niche, and keep up-to-date on the happenings of your industry.

  • Participate

Join message forums on your blog’s topic and associate with others in your niche. Read and comment on blogs similar to yours, write articles for other websites, submit your blog to every directory hosting your site’s category, and exchange links with related sites. All of these options, not only establish your credibility, but will give your site some great exposure and attract new visitors.

  • Write a book or special report

Nothing says expert like a book! While it will take longer to write than your blog posts and require more time to format and edit; writing a few pages of content and formatting them into an ebook for download can seriously raise the bar for those competing with you. Plus, it could lead to a nice revenue addition if you charged for its download.

Best of luck!

Write ahead and make the deadline everytime!

While it’s no secret that  regularly posted content is one of the biggest keys to success for any blog, many bloggers find themselves behind the power curve when it comes to their posting habits. So lets look at at ways to make sure you and your blog always have fresh content for your readers.

Weekly/Monthly Planning and Schedule

By having a posting plan and a schedule of blog posts, you’ll have a sense of obligation to your blog and will not want to let it slip. Additionally, already knowing what you’re going to write about can ease the writing process. I keep a notebook, one dedicated to each of my blogs, with a weeks worth of blog headlines and a brief idea of what each will consist of on each page.

Writing Ahead

One of the ways I like to ensure I’m always on time is to always write my articles ahead. By the time you’re reading this article, I’m working on next Monday’s and WordPress will post it automatically at midnight for me.  This is a fail safe practice providing you stick to the schedule mentioned above.

Reserve content

We’re all human and there will be days that we just won’t be able to create anything for our blog: Long days at our “Day Job”, illness, family emergency, or spending too much time playing Call of Duty. Whatever the reason, its always a good idea to have some timeless content on reserve that you’ll be able to fall back on in any situation. I keep 10 articles in a folder on my desktop. When I’ve had to use one of them, I’ll add an additional writing task to my schedule for the next week. It is important to verify the reserve article is still relevant before posting it.

While these are not the only ways to keep my blog visitors equipped with fresh daily content, I’ve found them to work best. It is vital to find what will work for you and you will be one step closer to blogging greatness.

What Is SEO?

The term SEO, stands for (Search Engine Optimization). Essentially, there are two ways to go about getting traffic to a website today, which are advertising it, and getting it for nothing. The free traffic is supplied by the major search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. Of course, receiving the most highly targeted free traffic possible to your website is the best way to maximize your profits.

While nobody is quite sure of everything that goes into the mathematical algorithms that the search engines use to rank a website, there are a few known factors. In this article we will review three of them, and if you utilize them properly there is a very strong likelihood that you can increase both your websites traffic, and your cash flow in a very short period.

First, is your websites URL. The more closely it is directly related to the main keywords you are targeting, the more likely you will rate high for them. The best way to explain this is by letting you see an example, which you will find below.

Let’s say you have a real estate agency in Orlando, FL. named (AAA Real Estate). The wrong way to select a URL, is the following, (AAARealEstate.com). If you are wondering why, it is because nobody but your mother is ever going to do a search for your businesses name.

A much better choice would be (Orlandohomesforsale.com). The reason why is quite simple, first people usually put the location in first if they are looking for a home to buy. Second, the term (homes for sale) is frequently a very highly searched and lucrative term in all real estate markets.

This one little simple tip would more than likely get your website on the first page of the searches for this very profitable term. It applies to all industries, so please make sure you use it whenever possible.

The second SEO tip we are going to discuss is regularly updated unique content. Please notice the two most important words in the above sentence, which were “regularly” and “unique”. The search engines want to see your website grow in a natural fashion by adding material to it all of the time.

What they do not want to see, is information that has been copied and pasted from other websites, which is where the term unique comes into play. If you do not like writing, are not good at it, or simply do not have enough time to do it. There are very inexpensive writers that you can hire on the internet to do it for you.

The third and final SEO tip we are going to discuss is one-way back-links. A back-link is another website that has inserted a link to your website in their pages. When a reader of their websites sees it and clicks on it, they will be transported to your website. Simply put, the more you have, the higher your website will rank, and the more free traffic it will receive.

Highly effective SEO is not something that can be accomplished overnight. It is something that you will need to work at and invest in if you want to achieve the financial results you desire.

Writer’s Block And Ways To Avoid It

Anybody and everybody that has ever written a great deal, knows that some days the words flow smoothly and fast, and other days even getting a single sentence out is like pulling teeth. If you have had those kinds of bad days in the past and are looking for a way to avoid them in the future, the following short article on breaking writer’s block just might be what you have been looking for.

There are many factors that go into contributing to writer’s block, some of them are controllable, and unfortunately some of them are not. If you are stressed out because of family problems, money concerns, or health issues, more than likely you will have a very difficult time writing.

However, those are controllable issues that you will need to simply not think about when you sit down at the keyboard. When you start to write, you should get yourself a very nice quite space to do it in. If you have a large family that is always around, you need to learn how to set boundaries, and strictly enforce them if you ever want to be a great writer.

To avoid writer’s block, your life style needs to be also taken into consideration. If you are tired, or you have a hangover, there is a good chance that you will not be writing too much, or too good that day. Therefore, if you plan on writing, you really need to get a good night’s sleep, and avoid alcohol. Of course, consuming great amounts of alcohol did not hurt Hemingway, but then again, almost assuredly you are not Hemingway.

You should also closely scrutinize your diet when you are planning on writing. If you eat large and fatty meals before sitting down to write, more than likely you will feel tired, lethargic, and it probably will not go to well for you. On the other hand, if you consume a light meal that has seafood as its principle ingredient, the words should flow like they never have for you in the past. Most seafood has a oil in it that goes directly to your brain, which increases its creative compactly that should help you write like a Pulitzer Prize winner.

If you are new to writing, or just have not done it in a while, there is no questioning the fact that the more you write, the better you get at it. If you find that you easily get discouraged, and patience is not your strong suit, maybe writing might not be the best career choice for you.

The fact of the matter is that some people can never over come writer’s block. However, if you are determined to become a good writer, and are willing to work at it, more than likely you will never be one of those people. The tips mentioned above should provide you a very strong foundation of helpful hints to implement. But, the most important tip has not been mentioned yet, which is to never give up, and to write as much as you possibly can.
